Cast Iron Sticky  After Seasoning?

HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT

Well-seasoned cast iron will come out of the oven dark, shiny, and smooth  — not sticky. If your cast iron pan is sticky, don't cook with it. First, fix the problem with these 3 steps!

common culprits

There are several reasons why your seasoned pan might come out sticky: Maybe the pan was dirty or cold when you applied the oil/fat, or the oven wasn't hot enough.  No matter what, it's not a lost cause!

Step 1

BAKE IT LONGER

Crank up the heat to 500°F on your oven and put the cast iron in to bake for an hour or so.

Step 2

CLEAN THE PAN

If your pan is still sticky, scour the pan (using soap if needed) to remove the grime. Then restart the seasoning  process from scratch.

Step 3

SEASON IT AGAIN

Use a cloth to lightly coat the entire pan with oil, then use a separate cloth to wipe it down. Finally, bake your pan in a preheated oven.
